When people say they are in love with London I understand where it comes from. London breathes, London lives. London nestles in your veins and becomes a part of your whole being. I am experiencing it right now.

I am completely honest with you when I say I don’t want to leave this place in a couple of weeks, but it’s not because I am in love with London. I’m in love with having my own place. Even though I share a house with five other people it feels like mine: it feels like I have my own little home.

It will take another few years before I get my real first own house but I already know what I want. The place doesn’t have to be big as long as it has big windows. I want it to be old with squeaking floorboards. Preferably a studio apartment.

Or something like the house above, but smaller. I would like to have bits and pieces from every room in just one.

This is a studio apartment I would die for. The colour palette isn’t maybe everybody’s taste but gosh.. isn’t it amazing? It gives me such an uplifting, energised and happy feeling. Shouldn’t your house do that? I love the way Nikki Rappaport filled this 41 square meter space with so much happiness.

A studio can be quite a challenge to decorate but making the right decisions will make it a real beauty and comfortable to live in. The big orange sofa for instance: it also functions as a room divider. I love how the bed is obviously there but not a part of the actual living area. And how smart is it that you can watch TV from the sofa or the bed without having to move any of these pieces of furniture?

One of my favourite corners is the one with the desk. It’s small but so bright and appealing! I think it’s important that you create a separate area to work, even with such little space, to avoid that your living or dining area is going to feel like your work station.

What do you think of this studio apartment?

It’s a dream of mine to start my grown-up live with a house that’s ready to be renovated and decorated. It’s on my mind for quite a few years now that I want to slightly renovate my first house. “Slightly” because renovations cost a lot of money and as a starter I won’t have the budget to work on a large project. A little project: touch ups here and there is big enough for the first time.

That your first home doesn’t have to be that BIG project is proven with these photos. Nat Berkus has probably moved several times in his life which doesn’t make this house his first, but the space just functions as an example! He made a true beauty of this white canvas. I would love to start my grown-up live like this!

From whom I got it nobody knows, but I love non-perfect, old and decrepit stuff for the home. My parents’ taste is pretty modern – hence why nobody knows why I like old stuff – which resulted in clean and stark tiling throughout the house. I do like our floors but when I get the opportunity to choose my own tiling I will definitely go for something like the above patterns.

I love the patterns and worn looks of these tiles. In think they have much more character than a sleek granite tile. I would love to use these in a fabulous bathroom or country kitchen!

This 40 square meters Swedish flat is a little dream for people who live on there own. Isn’t it super cute? The mixture of textures and furniture make this little apartment a very cosy place to be.

In small spaces like this it’s really clever to use a neutral colour palette with one colour that pops up now and then, in this case the purple shade(s). It makes everything look bigger but not boring. As you can see there is not much room for storage in the room itself but the huge build-in closet solves that problem.

What I like most about this apartment is the exposed brick in the kitchen, especially that little piece above the table. This way you can even consider it a piece of art.
