With Christmas around the corner I thought it would be fun to make a nail art matching this time of the year. I used a technique I’ve also used here and here. I use this technique often because it’s really quick but more important very easy: you don’t need a lot of skills to make your odd hand as pretty as the other one.

You can find the tutorial for this nail art at CosmOpinie and my YouTube.

Last week I did my first caviar manicure! I wanted to try this manicure for so long but the Ciaté ones are a bit hard to get for me so that didn’t work out. A few weeks ago I saw these little bottles with beads in Superdrug at the MUA stand and well.. I couldn’t help myself and bought two of them!

Here I used ‘Pisces’ because, well, I am a Pisces, haha. I also bought Gemini but I’ll show you that with another nail design. The base colour I used is O.P.I ‘My Boyfriend Scales Walls’ from the Spiderman collection. I totally understand if people think it’s a bit of a boring colour but I actually really like it! It’s an off white colour, slightly grey. This makes it more wearable for autumn and winter, it looked absolutely amazing with my navy blue shirt this week.

I gave my own twist to the spun sugar nails. Not so many strings and more variation in the thickness of them. It’s not as hard as it looks, it just takes a lot of patience. Most people say they don’t have the patience to paint there nails and I have to say, I don’t have a lot of patience, but painting my nails is quite relaxing. You can shorten the time it takes by using the base you’ve already on your nails. My nails were already painted in this greenish-grey colour, I only had to add the “spun sugar”!

Unlike the last Design + Style this one is a bit tricky to do! I got inspired by the Prabal Gurung AW12 show where he used a blood drop design on the models’ nails. I don’t think the person who made this design used a toothpick to paint it on the nails but since I don’t own fancy nail art brushes (no, I really don’t) I have to be creative with the gear I do have.

This was actually my first attempt to do this specific design and I think it turned out pretty good. The picture shows my second attempt (because I was stupid enough to remove everything from my nails, only then realising I forgot to take pictures) and it was a lot easier to do. The trick is that you have to work fast, but not too fast. The first time I was too worried about how the drops had to look which resulted in my nail polish getting a bit thick because the bottle was open for too long – don’t worry: this is just temporary. The second time I painted without thinking about the actual look of the drops and that’s why I worked a lot faster.

This design is even more suitable for Halloween then the Emma Watson inspired I did, are you going to give it a try?

Emma Watson ELLE UK November 2011
