With Christmas around the corner I thought it would be fun to make a nail art matching this time of the year. I used a technique I’ve also used here and here. I use this technique often because it’s really quick but more important very easy: you don’t need a lot of skills to make your odd hand as pretty as the other one.

You can find the tutorial for this nail art at CosmOpinie and my YouTube.

Step into Christmas.

About a year ago I came across the Maybelline FIT ME! range. I was immediately enthusiastic because of how this range is composed: the numbers of the foundation, concealer and powder correspond. If you have found the perfect shade of foundation you just grab the same number of concealer and powder! Easy, right? Or maybe I’m just a sucker for this kind of marketing.

But, there you have it, living in the Netherlands isn’t just crap because of the weather: we are lucky if products like make up will be available a year after their official launch. I said lucky because it happens all the time that we have to wait at least 18 months. Luckily for me I live in London (UK) right now and the FIT ME! range just came out a few weeks ago! I wanted to buy the products so bad but the nearest Superdrug and Boots had only four shades available and I didn’t really need a new foundation, concealer and powder.

Friday before last I had emotionally some kind of error. I got really irritated the night before, didn’t sleep that much and I just didn’t take that well. I was happy it wasn’t too busy at work because my concentration was non-existent that day and I basically needed every bit that was present to keep myself together. I just felt really awful. I haven’t felt that bad in ages and that got me upset even more. What better excuse to spoil myself? I was in serious need of some retail therapy.

In my lunch-break I ended up buying a few bits and bops at Superdrug, two books and a pizza and pretzel from my favourite Romanian bakery. That’s how we roll! Not that my mood got much better but it helped at least to get through the rest of the day. And as you may have already guest, among the bits and bops from Superdrug were the three products pictured. Maybe I wasn’t in need of a new foundation (especially not since I prefer BB cream), but: I. Didn’t. Care. Therefore it’s called ‘retail therapy’!

My thoughts about the FIT ME! products? I have quite an oily skin and although I’ve heard some people complain about this foundation not working for this skin type I don’t have problems with it. It’s a light to medium coverage depending on how you apply it and how much. Personally I like to use a tiny bit because I go for light coverage and for that I prefer to use my fingers. I use a foundation brush if I want slightly more coverage. The concealer works perfect for both under your eyes and on the rest of the face, I do have to set everything with the powder, though. When using a BB cream I can get away without setting it but since this is a foundation I have to set it to avoid too much shine.

The FIT ME! range also has blushes and bronzers, again corresponding with the number of your foundation, but they don’t have them is stores yet here so I couldn’t buy them. I definitely will when they are available! Have you heard of Maybelline FIT ME!? Used the products? Curious after this post?

A few weeks ago I received the Liebster Award from Style Inspire – Shelly and Diana!

I have to tell you 11 facts about me, answer the 11 given questions and then tag 11 other bloggers. I believe I’ve done a tag like this before (twice!) so I will just stick by answering the questions.

+ What is your biggest beauty blunder?
When I was around 13/14 I started using pressed powders to make my skintone a bit more even. Not knowing they need a bit of time to settle, I just kept on applying powder until I had the coverage I wanted. By the time I went outside it looked like I had plaster on my face.

+ Which one and why: no eyelashes or no eyebrows?
Definitely no eyelashes. I love my eyebrows and they make such a difference in my appearance. Now-a-days there are a lot of natural looking fake eyelashes where as when you draw on your full eyebrow, it will always looks fake.

+ Do you like to ‘wow’ with your makeup or are you keeping it save?
It depends really. I think I look best with a bit of colour on my eyes but how much and which colour depends on the outfit I am wearing. If my outfit is a bit plain I like to dress it up with a darker eye. If it’s full of colour I keep my eyes simple.

+ If you could be a smell/fragrance what would it be?
I would be a warm but citrus-y smell. Sounds weird, I know. I absolutely don’t like sweet smells but I do like the warmth they have. I love lemon/citrus smells but not the cold they have. So..

+ What is your biggest fashion blunder?
I don’t think I really have one. Maybe the orange striped jeans I owned when I was 12? Back then it was a bit weird but now-a-days I think they would be totally fashionable.

+ Leggings as normal bottoms, no shirt to cover up your bum.

+ What is your go-to store when it comes down to clothing?
I really like ‘Vila’, ‘The Sting’ and ‘Zara’ is getting more collections I like. Sometimes I try to shop in more alternative/vintage shops because everybody seems to get so much nice stuff there but it’s not working for me.

+ What is your favourite clothing item?
Jeans. I live in them.

+ What is your favourite holiday?
Christmas, duh! I love the whole atmosphere around Christmas. It makes me happy seeing all the decorations, lights and to hear the music.

+ Which countries have you visit and do you want to visit?
I’ve been to: France, Germany, Denmark, Madeira (Portugal), Menorca, Gran Canaria (both Spain), Poland, Austria, Italy, Belgium, England and South Africa. I would love to go to Asia, Egypt, other Scandinavian countries, Russia and Canada.

+ If one celebrity could sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to you, who would it be?
Johnny Depp. L.O.V.E.

Seriously, doesn’t ‘Vegas Volt’ sound like a Bond film? I think it fits perfectly with ‘Casino Royale’ and ‘Skyfall’. Uh-hu, yes, I can picture it in cinema’s. Let’s pretend I didn’t fall asleep watching Casino Royale and therefor don’t want to watch Skyfall. Have to say I stayed awake watching Quantum of Solace.

Of course this post isn’t about 007, looking at the photo you already figured I am talking about a lipstick! A few weeks back I accidentally ended up on Carnaby Street. My sense for direction is like.. nonexistent so yeah, it was a complete accident that I ended up there. But I am glad I found it because I really like it there, it feels like home. Anyhow, as I walked past all the nice shops my eye caught a small sign just a little further. Never seen it in real life but immediately knew where it was from: MAC. All my favourite beautyvloggers/bloggers rave about this brand so I had no other choice but running past Make Up Store, straight up to that small sign.

MAC on Carnaby Street is really small but I like that. It is small enough for the people outside to think: I won’t go in just yet, I’ll wait until some people leave, but big enough to move properly. Perfect for people like me who don’t like crowdy places. I didn’t go in completely unprepared, I was eyeing this lipstick for a pretty long time and basically saw my chance to see how it looked off-screen. I had some trouble finding the right colour (it was my first time in a MAC store and of course I forgot the lipsticks finish and therefore didn’t know where to start looking) but after some help I found it and was pretty much sold right away.

Vegas Volt is an orange-coral with a creamy, opaque finish. It seems a bit summer-y but I think it’s definitely wearable during autumn! Everytime I wear it I get compliments about my lipstick, even from complete strangers! For swatches I recommend Temptalia.

I am so happy with my first ever MAC purchase and will definitely go back to the MAC store at Carnaby Street when I feel like a new addition to my one-piece collection. Any recommendations?

Vegas volt, no it’s not the title of a new Bond film.

Unlike the last Design + Style this one is a bit tricky to do! I got inspired by the Prabal Gurung AW12 show where he used a blood drop design on the models’ nails. I don’t think the person who made this design used a toothpick to paint it on the nails but since I don’t own fancy nail art brushes (no, I really don’t) I have to be creative with the gear I do have.

This was actually my first attempt to do this specific design and I think it turned out pretty good. The picture shows my second attempt (because I was stupid enough to remove everything from my nails, only then realising I forgot to take pictures) and it was a lot easier to do. The trick is that you have to work fast, but not too fast. The first time I was too worried about how the drops had to look which resulted in my nail polish getting a bit thick because the bottle was open for too long – don’t worry: this is just temporary. The second time I painted without thinking about the actual look of the drops and that’s why I worked a lot faster.

This design is even more suitable for Halloween then the Emma Watson inspired I did, are you going to give it a try?
